Flu in Arizona

The following message was sent to MHC Healthcare by the Arizona Health Alert Network:

Influenza activity has been increasing in Arizona. As of January 14th, Arizona Department of Health Services categorized activity as "Widespread" (highest category). Laboratory-confirmed influenza cases have been identified in fourteen counties, and an estimated 761 cases were reported by laboratories in the past week. Most cases have been caused by influenza A, predominantly influenza A (H3).

It is not too late to vaccinate against influenza. In Arizona, influenza activity usually lasts through the spring months. Vaccination remains the best prevention against the flu, even in seasons of imperfectly matched vaccines. For a list of influenza vaccine clinics, visit www.StopTheSpreadAZ.org.

Regardless of vaccination status, clinicians should encourage all patients with influenza-like illness, especially those who are at high risk for complications (i.e. older persons, young children and people with certain chronic conditions), to seek care promptly to determine if influenza testing and antiviral treatment are warranted. Decisions about starting antiviral treatment should not wait for laboratory confirmation of influenza.

More information can be found in the influenza surveillance reports, posted weekly at http://www.azdhs.gov/phs/oids/epi/flu/index.htm.

  1. I wish to indicate because of you only to bail me out of this specific trouble. As a consequence of checking through the net and meeting systems that were not beneficial, I thought my life was finished.
